The Barney School Granted Petitioning Status for a Beta Alpha Psi Chapter

The Barney School has been granted petitioning chapter status with Beta Alpha Psi, an honorary organization for financial information students and professionals. The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.

This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting and finance; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.  Beta Alpha Psi was founded in 1919. By 2010, there will be 287 chapters on college and university campuses with over 300,000 members initiated since Beta Alpha Psi's formation.

Membership is available for undergraduate Accounting, Insurance Finance, and Economics Finance majors who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have completed at least one course in major and achieved at least a 3.0 GPA.  In addition, graduate students in the MSAT program who have completed at least one course with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are also welcome to join. 

There will be initial informational meetings on Monday, February 15th and Tuesday, February 16th, 4:15-5:00 in Auerbach 326.  Students who have been invited to attend should contact Dr. Carl Smith at casmith@hartford.edu to indicate which day they plan to attend.

Cordani and Gentile Inducted into Barney Hall of Fame

Alumni David Cordani (MBA '95), president and CEO of CIGNA Corp., and George Gentile (BS '59, MBA '69, Hon. '07), former chairman of Gerber Scientific, were inducted into the Barney School of Business Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Jan. 20 in the 1877 Club. Cordani and Gentile were selected from among 18,000 Barney alumni for their "outstanding achievements to promote global awareness and social responsibility." More....

Barney Class Visits Dubai During Winter Break
MBA students in the Barney School of Business recently returned from a study abroad trip to Dubai as part of an international business course. The Winterterm class, International Business and Multinational Enterprise, led by Steve Congden, associate professor of management, focused on international business issues in Dubai and the Gulf region of the Middle East.
