Campus Wide Business Plan Competition

Entrepreneurship is one of the vibrant engines of our economy and an essential source of growth, energy, and creativity. Recent research indicates that at least 70% of both high school seniors and the US work force are considering going into business for themselves. Most likely you are one of them. We are pleased to offer to all degree-enrolled students at the University of Hartford the opportunity to compete in the 5th Annual Business Plan competition sponsored by Schupp and Grochmal LLP . Regardless of your discipline it is the opportunity to showcase your ideas, which could lead to the next business venture.

The Business Plan Competition is designed to promote the sharing of ideas as well as stimulate the creation of new ventures by providing a forum for students to engage entrepreneurs and investors. It also offers students the opportunity to receive constructive feedback. Our mission is to teach, coach, and inspire students to carry out their dream. We hope you will consider sharing your passion with us and engage in what we can assure you will be a very rewarding experience.

THE COMPETITION CATEGORIES
Individual students or groups of students will compete against each other in any two categories for prize money:

  • Undergraduate Student Competition - $450
  • Graduate Student Competition - $550
COMPETITION DATES
  • Application Deadline (business plan and application form) - November 19 by 4pm to Auerbach Hall, Room 310
  • Presentations to judges - December 5, 2007
  • Award Banquet - December 12
COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS

Each student or group of students will be required to make a 5-minute elevator presentation in front of judges who are either entrepreneurs or connected to entrepreneurship activities in the state. Two finalists for each category will be required to present at the award banquet.

Undergraduate and Graduate competition entries require an on-line formal plan submission and a presentation to the judges.

Formal Plan Submissions should include the following sections:
  • Product/Service Description, Including Unique Aspects
  • Business Model
  • Target Market Niche, Number of Prospective Customers and the Annual Demand in Units
  • Strength and Weaknesses of Competitors
  • Sales and Distribution Plan
  • Amount of New Investment Sought and Intended Use

    INFORMATIONAL SESSIONS

    Students interested in entering the business plan competition are strongly encouraged to attend the informational session. This informational session will explain and answer questions about the competition. This years informational session will be held on October 16th at 12:30-1:30pm in Auerbach 327.

    COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS

    Each member of the team presenting and attending the banquet must attend all events. The banquet dinner is at the 1877 Club on Wednesday, December 12, 5:00-7:00 p.m.
