Beta Gamma Sigma 2008 Induction The induction cohort totaled 47 Barney students, 10 juniors, 18 seniors and 19 graduate students. The 1877 Club was filled and extra chairs had to be brought in for latecomers. And the videotaping was done by the University’s TV studio manager, Dan McNamara, with technical help from Barney’s Ron Lacomb and the Digital Technology Group The students were told by Dean Fairfield-Sonn that they are among the top one percent of business students worldwide based on Barney’s membership in the AACSB and the GPA-based selection criteria used. Several members of the Barney School faculty participated in the induction proceedings. Dean James Fairfield-Sonn initiated the ritual. Chapter advisor Professor Charles Canedy, III was most heavily involved, performing the call to order, the preprandial toast, and acting as queuemaster. The reading of the principles was done by Professor Sandra Morgan, Beta (Honor), Professor Carl Smith, Gamma (Wisdom), and Charles Canedy Sigma (Earnestness). Rachna Khanna, successful Barney MBA and Beta Gamma Sigma, 2003, gave the opening address and told an insightful story about Genghis Kahn. Assistant Dean Annette Rogers, also a Barney MBA and Beta Gamma Sigma, 2002, gave the keynote address and told about her life’s journey to date and had suggestions for the inductees’ journeys into the future. These suggestions included the founding of a Hartford Alumni Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, for which Ms. Rogers offered to serve as the focal point.
