Message from Dean James Fairfield-Sonn

"On the move!" That's the phrase that I think best describes the present state of the Barney School of Business. In the Fall, 2000 we received accreditation by the AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Thus we joined the ranks of just 551 business schools around the world that have received this evidence of high quality and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Our undergraduate curriculum is a unique one built around a "career ready" focus. Not only do our students learn the relevant concepts and skills for leadership and decision-making positions but they also have special requirements and courses which focus on preparing them for entry into today's fast changing world. An internship and the completion of an applied project in the major are part of that "career ready" focus.

At the graduate level, we've instituted a "no hassle" approach consistent with providing outstanding customer service to our very busy students. This means that books and materials needed for each course, parking permits, identification cards, and e-mail accounts are available to our students in close proximity to their classes in Auerbach hall. In addition, consistent with our emphasis on recruiting persons with business experience, we instituted a GMAT waiver process which allows applicants to apply for a waiver based on significant work experience.

Speaking of Auerbach, our facilities have a new look with a refurbished entry hall, new carpeting, blinds, and classroom technology. Auerbach Hall features wired and wireless Internet connections. We also set up a newly refurbished reading room with daily newspapers and periodicals available for student, staff, and faculty use.

Continuing involvement with and service to the business community are part of our mission. We also have an active program called our Lunch and Learn Series which brings corporate executives to campus to speak. Enrichment workshops on topics such as negotiation and the use of various computer software packages are made available periodically to students and alumni at no charge. Our Leadership Development Center offers non-credit education and consulting services to organizations in our region.
