Some Previous Intenational Courses
MBA 730 Managing Customer Interfaces
6/2/07-6/9/07
Berlin
Professor LaPlaca
Four Barney MBA and twelve Masters students from the Freie Universität Berlin completed the Managing Customer Experiences course (MBA730) in Berlin the week of June 4 – 8. Case discussions were very lively due to the different cultures represented in the class (FUB students came from Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Bolivia, England and Belgium in addition to Germany). It seems that each culture has a somewhat different definition of a customer with wide variations on how they should be treated. The class ended on Friday afternoon with a visit to the European School of Management and Technology (esmt is a private university owned by the 25 largest corporations in Germany.) and a discussion with esmt’s Director of Customer Relations. As a private university, charging a very high MBA tuition (€60,000 per year), effective and efficient relationships with customers is extremely important. The students had an excellent discussion with the CRM director in which several alternative CRM strategies were discussed. The day ended with a tour of esmt’s facilities (which was the “White House” for the former East German government; many of the old symbols of the Communist government have been preserved for their historic relevance.)
MKT 715 International Services Marketing
6/22/07-7/1/07 Singapore/Bangkok
Professor Albert
This course provides students with the theory and practice of international services marketing. Services now dominate global markets and it is necessary to learn and apply quality and service strategies to achieve a competitive advantage. The course focuses on the unique challenges of managing services in organizations that deliver pure service (banks, professional services, hotels, education, etc.) and those that use service as a differentiation strategy (manufacturers of technology, automotive, consumer packaged goods, etc.) in a variety of global settings.
